Why Be Involved in Small Groups?

There is no simple solution to developing healthy relationships; however, a thriving small group ministry is one of the best ways to fulfill the biblical purposes of the church. Following are seven reasons to join a small group:

  1. Small groups are a way of connecting people in the community to God.
  2. Life transformation can happen in small groups. Small groups help people transition from “doing life alone” to “doing life together.”
  3. Healthy small groups make for a healthy church.
  4. Small groups are the primary model for doing church. We must work together on what it takes to help our people do life together just like Jesus. Doing life together is a biblical model, not a fancy program.
  5. Small groups bring people closer to Christ “one step” at a time. Building relationships is the most nonthreatening, natural way to connect authentically with people. Fifty percent of people invited by a friend will say yes to a short, six-week Bible study in a person’s home.
  6. Small groups provide training for leaders. The best way to train leaders is to allow them to experience it. This will grow every member into a leader over time.
  7. Small groups encourage godly stewardship. When people are cared for and feel loved, there is a tendency for them to give more.

First Assembly of God Christian Center does not necessarily endorse, guarantee, support or agree with certain small group activities. All small group leaders abide by our church bylaws and doctrinal statement.

Please Note: Some small groups cooperate together in hiring baby sitters. Given that these arrangements are done by individual small group members and not by the church, those members are encouraged to exercise reasonable care in their selection and supervision of babysitters.
