AG Small Group Model Churches Guidelines

Definition – An AG church with a small group ministry which has met the criteria established by the COD.

Criteria and Minimum Standards – An AG church with a small group ministry which:

  • Has had an effective small group ministry for a minimum of the last two years.
  • Requires spiritual interaction (i.e., devotion, prayer, etc.) in each regularly scheduled group meeting.
  • Is led by individuals who support church leadership, doctrine, mission, and values.
  • Is led by individuals who are proponents of Pentecostal doctrine and practice.
  • Encourages meetings on a regular basis (recommended minimum of nine months a year).
  • Promotes the intentional, ongoing discipleship of its members through such practices as the intentional and consistent study of God’s Word.

Function – The function of a model church is to provide an open door for church leaders to visit, observe, and learn, on location, from individuals who are actively involved in leading a dynamic small group ministry and are available for dialogue and input.

Role – The role of the model church is simply to make the person in charge of small groups available to the visiting team and go over such material as the history and development of small groups in their church and explain function, materials used, personnel training, etc. The model church would not be responsible for housing or meal functions.
