The Fresh Eyes assessment is a great way to help a church assess its hospitality as it relates to visitors. It looks at the visitor’s experience as they are greeted at the front door, as they check their children into the nursery or kids’ programs, as they understand the dynamics of a service, any fellowship points at the conclusion of the service, and how they’re treated as they leave the building. For more information concerning the Fresh Eyes Guest Assessment, please contact Rick Allen at rallen@ag.org.
Jim and Casper Go to Church (030110) "Is this what Jesus told you guys to do?" In 2006, Christian leader Jim Henderson hired atheist Matt Casper to join him in visiting twelve of America’s best- and least-known churches, including Rick Warren’s Saddleback and Joel Osteen’s Lakewood.
Week after week, this spiritual odd couple attended services at churches all over the country. Now you can hear about their experiences and reactions to each church. Jim and Casper’s articulate, sometimes humorous, and always insightful dialogue offers believers a new view of an environment in which we’ve become overly comfortable: the church. And it models an important transition from "defending the faith" to "defending the space" relational space for authentic, respectful dialogue and friendship with nonbelievers.
Serving as Church Greeter (035407) Whether a church is large or small, often the first person one encounters is the church greeter. Topics include: the ministry of the greeter, the need for warm-hearted greeters, a user-friendly foyer, better ways of doing things, and the parking lot ministry.
Give guests a tour. At the end of the service, offer a tour of your church facilities to guests. This gives you the opportunity to give them a quick overview of the church and the various ways your church can connect with each member of their family.
Offer a pastor’s dessert once a quarter. Each quarter, host a dessert reception for guests. This gives them the opportunity to meet not only the pastoral staff but lay leadership as well.
Host a new member class. This helps newcomers connect to the church, its purpose and mission, and get them plugged in. A great resource to help you develop a new member class is the We Build People CD-ROM (260230).
Alive in Christ (020481) Teaches new believers the basics of the Christian walk. Written for the new convert, each book builds on the one before it, as students discover through personal study how to apply God’s principles to everyday living. It is an excellent follow-up resource for the local church, campus ministry, or multi-denominational youth rally. Great to use one-on-one or in small group settings.
Adventures in Faith(020135) Welcome to Holsom: Adventures in Faith instantly grabs kids with cool art and an enthralling story about Hugh’s transformation from budding thief to follower of Jesus. Kids learn vital practices of Christian living that keep them growing in faith while preparing them for service, things like salvation, prayer, Bible study, witnessing, baptism, reputation, and community service. The story pauses for short journaling sections throughout that allow kids to respond with their own thoughts, leading to teachable moments. Talk about a great new way to spiritually grow your kids!
